Intro to Bikepacking Trip: Saturday May 23rd to Sunday May 24th, 2026
Thought about trying bikepacking or bicycle touring? Join us! This trip is meant to help cyclists new to bicycle travel to dip their toes in the water. Our staff is extremely experienced in bicycle travel. Both Rich Harper (John's Cyclery's Owner) and his daughter have ridden their bicycles across the U.S in addition to numerous other trips, including along the Greenbrier River Trail. We are excited to share the adventure of travel by bicycle with you.
We will meet along the Greenbrier River Trail at the Seebert, WV trailhead at 1pm on Saturday, May 23rd. We will ride 17.5 miles to a trailside campsite near Golden (mile marker 28.5) and camp there. Sunday morning we will pack up and ride back to our cars at Seebert.
If you're interested in joining this free trip, please fill out this Google form so we can contact you. We plan to host a workshop at John's Cyclery in early May to discuss what you need, how to carry it on your bike, and answer any questions you might have.
Rich occasionally rides John Turner’s beautiful 1970 Schwinn Paramount.
Vintage Bike Ride
We’ve been in business since 1968. With the bike boom of the 1970s, thousands of Schwinn 10 speeds, Stingrays, Crates, Continentals, Le Tours and the like rolled out of John’s Cyclery. We still service and enjoy those bikes today. Rich Harper, current owner of John’s Cyclery, purchased a Schwinn Super Sport from John Turner when he was a 16 year old kid. Rich still rides that Schwinn Super Sport today. Rich is not alone, countless children and adults wheeled out of John’s Cyclery a bicycle that became a central part of their childhood and lives. Celebrate these timeless bikes by dusting them off, reliving your childhood, and riding with us. The ride is a flat, 5.7 mile cruise around the residential streets of St. Albans with a stop for ice cream at Crafts of the Coal. We will have a drawing & one lucky rider will get a $10 gift card for Crafts of the Coal! Thurs. June 4th, 2026 at 6:30pm. The ride starts from the back parking lot of John's Cyclery. All ages of bikes welcome, but bring a classic if you have one!
